Research
for Housing Strategies
|
A JOINT LARIA/LGA SEMINAR
Monday 18th December 2006
Local Government Association Offices, London
WHAT WAS
IT ALL ABOUT?
Housing issues have moved right up the political agenda in recent years
and this seminar aims to shed some light on the research needed to
produce robust housing strategies for communities - for local neighbourhoods,
much wider areas and specific groups. We start with housing market
assessments. There is the need to move away from a relatively narrow
view of housing needs, concentrating almost entirely on social rented
housing, to encompass the private sector, intermediate tenures and
specific community groups. How should local government researchers
adapt their research to meet this agenda? We find out from people who
are already working in this field.
But housing strategies aren't solely built on housing market assessments.
There is increasing concern about understanding the role housing plays
in community development - be it neighbourhood renewal or achieving balanced
and sustainable communities as part of the government's growth agenda.
And for landlords - how can research improve business planning? This
seminar provides some practical examples of relevant research on all
three issues.
WHO WAS IT FOR?
This seminar is for researchers and policy officers working on housing
strategy development and housing market assessments. It will also be
of interest to strategic land-use planners and officers involved in community
development.
