LIST OF CONSULTATIONS RE: LOCAL GOVERNMENT

The Department for Children, Schools and Families (http://www.dcsf.gov.uk) is responsible for improving the focus on all aspects of policy affecting children and young people. It takes on pre-19 education policy responsibilities from DfES.
The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (http://www.dius.gov.uk) brings together functions from the former Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), including responsibilities for science and innovation, with further and higher education and skills, previously part of DfES.
The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (http://www.dberr.gov.uk) brings together functions from DTI, including responsibilities for productivity, business relations, energy, competition and consumers, with the Better Regulation Executive, previously part of the Cabinet Office. It leads on making sustainable improvements in the economic performance of the regions.
The Department of Communities & Local Government (CLG) (http://www.communities.gov.uk ) sets UK policy on local government, housing, urban regeneration, planning and fire and rescue. Responsibility for all race equality and community cohesion related issues in England and for building regulations, fire safety and some housing issues in England and Wales.
The UK Statistics Authority (UKSA) (http://www.statisticsauthority.gov.uk) is an independent body operating at arm's length from government as a non-ministerial department, directly accountable to Parliament. It was established on 1 April 2008 by the 'Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007'.
Its overall objective is to promote and safeguard the quality of official statistics. It is also required to safeguard the comprehensiveness of official statistics, and ensure good practice in relation to official statistics.

DCSF consultation seeking views on draft guidance to provide practitioners across all relevant agencies and the voluntary and community sector with information about how to implement the duty placed on local authorities by the Education and Inspections Act 2006 to identify those children not receiving a suitable education.

CLG consultation Communities in Control: Real People, Real Power – Improving Local Accountability, covering the implementation of the overview and scrutiny provisions in the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007. It seeks views on how to develop overview and scrutiny powers to hold local officers to account and how to facilitate the work of councillors.

DEFRA consultation on policy options for increasing the use of property-level measures by householders to reduce the impacts of flooding. It asks stakeholders for their views on whether offering households a free home flood survey would be sufficient to drive greater take-up or whether a government grant to subsidise the costs of the measures themselves would be required.

DCSF consultation on proposals to give Sure Start Children's Centres (SSCCs) a specific statutory legal basis, as part of the forthcoming Education and Skills Bill. The purpose of the proposed legislation is to establish SSCCs as a legally recognised part of the universal infrastructure for children's services, so their provision becomes a long term statutory commitment and part of the established landscape of early years provision.

NHS Connecting for Health are consulting to help make important decisions about the ways the NHS can use information it collects about patients. Such patient data is mainly used to provide care and treatment but can also have additional uses such as research, auditing the quality and safety of care, management planning, etc. This consultation is focusing on additional uses.

Department of Health consultation on proposals for a National Framework for assessing children and young people’s continuing care. The Framework is intended to assist Primary Care Trusts to apply a consistent and transparent approach to assessing the healthcare needs of children and young people and to work jointly with local authorities to provide services in the light of those needs.

Welsh Assembly Government consultation concerning the Wales Index of Multiple Deprivation: Child Index, a measure of concentrations of child deprivation for small areas in Wales based on seven different deprivation domains.
