LARIA has three types of membership:
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
This is open to anyone working in research and intelligence for a local
authority, or in an allied field. It is free of charge. It entitles individuals
to receive three issues of LariaNews per year,
plus details of LARIA events and publications. Associate Members
may not vote or stand for office.
Even
though Associate Membership is free it is still necessary to register
by completing and returning the membership application form.
FULL MEMBERSHIP
This is also open to anyone working in research and intelligence for
a local authority, or in an allied field. It costs £5 per calendar
year. Full Members may vote at the AGM or other general meetings and
stand for office. They, too,
receive three issues of LariaNews per
year, plus details of LARIA events and publications. Full Members are
not entitled to discounts
on LARIA
events
and publications unless they are also working for organisations that
are Corporate Members (see below).
CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP
This is available for local authorities and other allied organisations.
It costs £60 per calendar year (£40 for remainder of calendar
year for applications received after 1st July) . Corporate Members
receive up
to three copies of the three issues of LariaNews each
year. They are also entitled to discounts
on the price of attending any LARIA event for any staff currently in
their employment, to discounts on the prices of LARIA publications
and to display
at no cost job adverts on the LARIA web site. Corporate Members do
not have
voting rights (except individuals who are also Full Members). Corporate
Members must name a principal contact, together with up to two other
named contacts who will all receive LariaNews.

All Members (Full, Associate or Corporate) are welcome to participate
in the activities of LARIA via its various activity
groups, but only Full Members may vote or become Officers of the
Association. Individuals in organisations that are Corporate Members
can also become
Full Members upon payment of the appropriate subscription.
RESEARCH CONTACTS LIST
One of the aims of
LARIA is to encourage networking amongst local government researchers,
and one way of helping to achieve that is by the publication of a list
of research contacts in local authorities and in other organisations where
local government research is undertaken. LARIA has therefore decided to
make available to its members, extracts from its membership list.
The Research Contacts
List (available in Excel format) contains the name, job title, department,
organisation, telephone number and research interests of LARIA members
(where approval of publication has been given). The listing is intended
to help LARIA members make contact with other researchers with similar
interests. It is not intended as a mailing list for commercial purposes
(no postal or email addresses are contained on the file, only telephone
numbers). It is available only to LARIA members, whether they be Full
Members, Associate Members or named under Corporate Membership. It
will
be updated regularly. The Research Contacts List can be obtained free
of charge from Doris Besford, the LARIA Administrator on request admin@laria.gov.uk
