New Chair of LARIA and Council Members

Congratulations to Neil Wholey, Head of Research and Customer Insight at Westminster City Council, who is now the new Chair of LARIA. He was elected at our recent conference in Birmingham. Andy Davis, who served as LARIA Chair for five year, remains on the Council as the Treasurer. We also welcome new Council members Neil Bendel, Professor Tony Bovaird, Dale Hall and Darren Sugg

A regular refrain of LARIA members is that we can sometimes struggle to influence key decisions makers. This was echoed as a big challenge in the survey of members last year. To support members our Honorary President, Martin Reeves, Chief Executive of Coventry City Council and Vice President of Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE) has written on behalf of LARIA to SOLACE representatives very recently asking how they use local researchers to help them fulfil their roles

Consultation on benchmarking residents’ perceptions of local government

Feedback from the local government sector has suggested there is demand for benchmarked data on resident satisfaction. For the Local Government Association (LGA) and London Councils, responding to this demand demonstrates that, rather than central government imposing data requirements on the sector, the sector is able to decide for itself which data to collect. Therefore, the LGA and London Councils have just published a consultation on a proposed set of resident satisfaction questions. We would encourage you to respond to the consultation which closes on 19th April.
