LARIA eNews October 2011

This is our monthly update to all our members about what is going on in LARIA and the world of public sector research.

Take part in our survey now

LARIA and the Local Government Group are conducting a survey to understand the research capacity and needs across public sector researchers. It will provide key baseline information to allow LARIA to develop a package of support for LARIA members. All LARIA members should have received an individual link to the survey, so please let us have your views.

We'd also like colleagues from other public sector organisations to complete the survey. If you have not received a personal email then you should click here to take part: http://tinyurl.com/Research-Capacity-Survey Please forward this link to your networks. For further details on the survey click here.

LGC Future Leaders Network

Over the summer LARIA was asked if we would be willing to support a new initiative being launched by LGC, the Future Leaders Network.

The network will bring together up-and-coming people from the range of local government disciplines across the country who are seeking to move into more senior positions, and provide a development and networking environment for them based on local/regional arrangments. LARIA sought nominations from across our membership, and we were really pleased to put forward the names of half a dozen willing people to join the programme. We'll report progress with the Future Leaders Network in LARIA News Magazine over the next twelve months as the programme gets up and running. Click here for more information

The Citizenship Survey leaves on a high. There is increased satisfaction with the local area, less concern about crime and greater perceptions of community cohesion. Two-thirds (64%) of Britons trust their council - the highest score ever recorded. The survey of 10,000 adults was carried out between April 2010 and March 2011. Click here for information

Are you interested in helping us improve LARIA News and eNews?

The LARIA editorial group has just been set up to cover all our communications and we would love active members to join. We edit, design and send out LARIA News, eNews, the website and other communications.  They are only as good as the content and we would love to have more information from members on the research they have done or have found useful. We review all the information we receive online through a special Community of Practice site. By joining the group you will be able to help LARIA overall and individual members. Email us at editor@laria.gov.uk if you would like to be involved in helping us keep our members informed.
